Overview

For more than a decade, AmeriHealth has led the way in bringing quality, affordable health care to more than 265,000 people in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

We are a subsidiary of one of the largest health insurers in southeastern Pennsylvania. Since our inception in 1995, we have been recognized by national organizations and publications for the quality of our plans.

Company Growth

AmeriHealth — originally known as Delaware Valley HMO — was established in 1995 to provide health coverage to Pennsylvania employers and their staff residing in Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, and Salem counties. We then expanded our coverage area to include all of southern New Jersey and Delaware, and, by 1997, AmeriHealth offered coverage to the entire state of New Jersey.

Today, AmeriHealth provides health coverage to more than 265,000 people and 8,000 businesses. Our headquarters is in Cranbury, NJ, and we have additional offices in Pennsylvania.

Network Strength

More than 37,000 primary care physicians and specialists participate in our PPO, HMO, and POS networks. Our extensive list of participating providers in the AmeriHealth service area includes more than 230 acute care and rehabilitation hospitals, a number of which are internationally recognized teaching institutions and specialty facilities.

Technological Advances

Over the past six years, AmeriHealth has taken major strides toward simplifying the business of health insurance. The lynchpin of this effort has been investing in technology. This resource allows us to maximize the power of the Internet and streamline the millions of transactions that we conduct each year with brokers, employers, members, and health care professionals.

A key part of our commitment to our members is making sure that they have access to a wide variety of tools and information to help them take the best possible care of themselves. In the fall of 2005, we unveiled a new and improved amerihealthexpress.com website — one designed to make it even easier for members to locate information they need to better manage their health and more easily do business with us. Members can use this online portal to:

  • check on the status of a claim;
  • access a wealth of health information;
  • access specific benefit information;
  • register for AmeriHealth Healthy LifestylesSM programs;
  • access decision-support tools and clinicians, 24/7;
  • request ID cards;
  • download forms.

Health Care Professionals

AmeriHealth has capitalized on the speed and efficiency of the Internet to create a portfolio of quick and easy online resources for network providers. These resources build upon the power and versatility of the NaviNet® provider portal. NaviNet allows providers to access AmeriHealth's back-end systems to help simplify and speed up daily tasks associated with health care administration.

  • confirm patient eligibility and benefits;
  • submit referrals, claims and prior authorizations;
  • retrieve up to two years of patient history;
  • review drug formularies and medical policies;
  • retrieve paper and electronic referrals.

In the Community

AmeriHealth is not only committed to improving the health of our members, but also the health of our community through education and volunteerism. Our associates are at the frontlines of building healthier lives and communities through our employee corporate volunteer program, the Red, White, and Blue Crew. Through many sponsorships and philanthropic efforts, their dedication and hard work has helped us to realize our overall social mission.

These events, both one-time and ongoing activities, are numerous and state-wide. Some of the Red, White, and Blue Crew activities include the AmeriHealth Ben Franklin Bridge Challenge to benefit the Larc School in Bellmawr, New Jersey; a platinum sponsorship of the Special Olympics New Jersey; and the United Way Day of Caring. The company is also active in the New Jersey State Chamber of Commerce, the New Jersey Business and Industry Association, the Chamber of Commerce of Southern New Jersey, and the New Jersey Association of Health Plans.

AmeriHealth started more than a decade ago with a single HMO product to meet the need of members living in four counties in New Jersey. Today, AmeriHealth is a family of health care benefits products serving all of New Jersey. In our second decade, we maintain our commitment to providing quality health care benefits that serve the ever-changing needs of our members and our community.
