Seasonal Flu Vaccine Recommendations and Labeling Changes for Tamiflu®Each year we encourage our members to get vaccinated against the seasonal flu and ask that you advise your patients to receive a vaccination as soon as possible. The CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommends the flu vaccination for all people 6 months and older, especially pregnant women, children younger than 5, adults 50 and older, and anyone with a chronic illness. Note that for the 2011-2012 flu season, Tamiflu® for oral suspension is available in a lower concentration (6 mg/mL versus the former 12 mg/mL). The FDA warns that patients may potentially receive either concentration from their pharmacy, so prescribers should include the new concentration (6 mg/mL) in milliliters and dose on all prescriptions for Tamiflu® for oral suspension. Please refer to the October edition of Partners in Health UpdateSM for additional resources about this year’s flu vaccine and for more information about Tamiflu® for oral suspension. |
