AmeriHealth New Jersey Names New Vice President

Paul E. Portsmore, Jr. to head Provider Relations

Mt. Laurel, NJ – June 26, 2006 – AmeriHealth New Jersey announced today the appointment of Paul E. Portsmore, Jr. as Vice President Provider Relations.

Portsmore succeeds Judith L. Roman, who was named president and CEO of AmeriHealth New Jersey earlier this year.

"We are very pleased to have Paul join our company," said Roman. "Paul has more than 10 years experience in network development and provider contracting, and is well-positioned to lead in the critical role of developing and maintaining our medical delivery networks."

In his new position, Portsmore oversees comprehensive programs, services, systems and contracting initiatives that support AmeriHealth New Jersey's network of hospitals and physicians.

Most recently, Portsmore was the assistant vice president of network contracting for Empire Blue Cross and Blue Shield where he headed physician relations and contracting in New York and New Jersey, and led contracting and medical cost control for the New York City/Long Island service area.  Prior to that role, he directed Empire's provider e-Business initiatives.

Portsmore holds an MBA degree in Health Care Administration from Baruch College-Zicklin School of Business in New York and a BA degree in Political Science from Providence College in Rhode Island.

He resides in Malverne, New York.
