AmeriHealth New Jersey Names New Head

Judith Roman named AmeriHealth President and CEO

Mt. Laurel, NJ – March 27, 2006 – AmeriHealth announced today the appointment of Judith L. Roman as President and CEO of AmeriHealth New Jersey, which provides health care coverage to nearly 265,000 New Jersey residents.

After serving nearly two years as AmeriHealth's Vice President of Provider Relations, Roman will head the organization, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Independence Blue Cross (IBC). Roman succeeds William F. Haggett, who in January was named to the post of Chief Marketing Executive at IBC.

"Judy's impeccable credentials and talent for creating strong partnerships has been a key factor in AmeriHealth's overall growth and progress," said Joseph A. Frick, IBC president and CEO. "I am confident that Judy will build on AmeriHealth's achievements and proven strengths to lead the company to even greater success."

Roman has more than 20 years of experience in the health care industry. Since joining AmeriHealth in 2004 as vice president of provider relations, she has significantly expanded and strengthened AmeriHealth's provider network, especially in northern New Jersey.

Prior to joining AmeriHealth New Jersey, Roman was vice president of medical delivery at WellChoice Inc., formerly known as Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield in New York. She also served as the regional vice president of medical delivery at Oxford Health Plans in Iselin, New Jersey.

Roman, who attended Farleigh Dickinson University, is co-founder and board member of the Jennifer Swift Fieldman Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising money for sarcoma research.

AmeriHealth HMO Inc. and AmeriHealth Insurance Company of New Jersey, collectively known as AmeriHealth New Jersey, provide health care coverage to nearly 265,000 New Jersey residents. The company has built credentialed hospital and physician networks for its managed care products, with thousands of physicians and more than 100 hospitals throughout its service areas.
