AmeriHealth+ Health Account SolutionsAmeriHealth+ Health Account Solutions provide substantial benefits to groups and employees when paired with one of our health plans. These accounts can help offset increased member cost-sharing and provide a vehicle to save for medical expenses. Health Account OptionsAmeriHealth+ FSAs (Flexible Spending Accounts)*AmeriHealth+ FSAs are personal accounts which are typically funded by members, but can also be funded by the group. FSAs can reduce a group’s exposure to certain federal and state income taxes. Groups lower their FICA taxes because participation reduces members’ taxable income base. At the same time, members benefit from FSAs by using pre-tax income to pay for eligible medical and/or dependent care expenses. FSA funds must be spent on eligible expenses during the plan year. If the FSA account is not fully depleted, the balance is forfeited at the end of the plan year. FSAs are not portable to another group and have annual reelection and expiration requirements. AmeriHealth+ HRAs (Health Reimbursement Accounts)*AmeriHealth+ HRAs are personal accounts funded solely by the group. HRAs can reduce a group’s exposure to federal and state taxes, including Social Security and Medicare taxes. In addition, a group’s HRA contributions may qualify as a fully-deductible business expense. HRAs allow members to “bank” unused funds over consecutive benefit years for use when the funds are needed. AmeriHealth+ HSA Solutions (Health Savings Accounts)**When you select an AmeriHealth PPO High Deductible Health Plan option, you can create an AmeriHealth+ HSA Solution by offering your employees a Health Savings Account (HSA). HSAs are member-owned personal savings accounts which can be funded by either the group or the member, and must be offered in conjunction with a federally qualified high deductible health plan. HSAs provide a tax-free savings vehicle for medical expenses and are structured similar to an IRA. Deductions for qualified medical expenses are tax-free, while non-qualified expenses are subject to tax and penalty. Unused funds can accumulate to pay for future medical expenses. Under an HSA arrangement, the member owns the account so if they change jobs, the account goes with them. AmeriHealth offers high deductible health plans through our AmeriHealth PPO High Deductible Health Plan product and has a preferred relationship with The Bancorp Bank to provide HSA services to our members. * AmeriHealth FSAs and HRAs are administered by AmeriHealth Administrators. |
